Differences Between Aster and Hyperliquid
Here are the main differences between Aster and Hyperliquid (two DeFi platforms focused on perpetual/derivatives markets), according to the official documents of both projects.
Aster (ASTER)
- A DEX for perpetuals and also spot, with a strong DeFi component.
- Allows you to use yield-bearing collateral, such as liquid staking tokens or stablecoins that yield even when you're using them as margin to trade.
- It operates on multiple blockchains (BNB Chain, Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum) for easy access.
- It offers different interface modes: a "Simple" mode with high leverage and ease of use, and a "Pro" mode with more advanced features.
Hyperliquid (HYPE)
- Also a DEX focused on perpetual and spot contracts, but built on its own layer-1 chain for derivatives, with an on-chain order book.
- Usability is similar to that of a centralized exchange in terms of speed, trading experience, and order execution.
- Strong transparency: the order book, cancellations, liquidations, etc. are visible on-chain.
Relative advantages and disadvantages
- Aster may be more attractive for those who want to use yield-yielding collateral, high leverage, explore perpetual equity markets, and more network options.
- But this "more" comes with greater risk: very high leverage, liquidation risk, bug/MEV risk, and dependence on incentives to maintain volume.
- Hyperliquid appears to offer more stability, a solid experience, lower execution risk, and fewer incentive flashes, perhaps better for those who value security, clear execution, and premium usability.
